Timothy Manning was born on November 15, 1909 in Ireland. He died on Jun 23, 1989 (age 79). A prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who was of Irish and American descent and who served as the Archbishop of Los Angeles from 1970 to 1985.
In 1938, he attended the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and earned a doctorate in canon law from that institution. In 1978, he participated as a cardinal elector in both the papal conclave that chose Pope John Paul I and the papal conclave that chose Pope John Paul II. He left his family behind in Ireland, where he was born, in order to answer a call for priests in the United States, and in 1928 he relocated to California.
