Juraj Dobrila was born on March 16, 1812 in Croatia. He died on Jan 13, 1882 (age 69). A bishop in the Catholic Church who, while living under foreign administration, was deeply committed to protecting Croatian culture and the Croatian language.
In the year 1837, he was ordained as a priest, and from 1839 to 1842, he attended theological school in Vienna. In the year 1870, he participated in the First Vatican Council. It was in Istria that he and his family began their lives.
