Juan Subercaseaux was born on August 26, 1896 in Chile. He died on Aug 9, 1942 (age 45). During the years 1940 to 1942, he served as the Archbishop of La Serena, Chile, in his capacity as a Roman Catholic priest.

He received his education in theology and philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical Collegio Pio Latino Americano in Rome, respectively. Before he passed away in an automobile accident in Chile, he was posthumously bestowed with the Order of the Crown of Italy. His mother was a writer, while his father had a career in international diplomacy.
