Johannes Rebmann was born on January 16, 1820 in Germany. He died on Oct 4, 1876 (age 56). German explorer and Christian missionary who is credited with discovering Kilimanjaro and becoming the first European to do so.
His father was a farmer and winegrower, and Gerlingen, in the state of Wurttemberg, was the place of his birth. He remained on the continent of Africa for close to thirty years in all. His marriage to Louise Dauble Rebmann in 1876 only lasted for a little over a year before he fell dead from pneumonia in the fall of that year.
