Gary Thomas was born on October 24, 1961 in Washington. This motivational author and Baptist pastor is perhaps best known for his book Sacred Marriage, which is centred on Christian themes. He is also the author of Authentic Faith, which was honoured with the Gold Medallion Award.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in English from Western Washington University, he went on to obtain his master’s degree in systematic (Christian) theology from Regent College in British Columbia, Canada, and then his doctorate in theology from Western Seminary in Oregon. Beginning in the year 2010, he was a pastor at Houston’s Second Baptist Church in addition to serving as a writer-in-residence for the church’s congregation. Although he was born in Puyallup, Washington, he ultimately decided to make his home in Texas with his wife, Lisa, and their three children.
