Francis Spellman was born on May 4, 1889 in Massachusetts. He died on Dec 2, 1967 (age 78). He became the sixth Archbishop of New York in 1939 and served in that capacity until 1967.
In baseball, he played for his high school team, and he was the first baseman. He served as the officiant for both Robert Kennedy’s and Edward Kennedy’s weddings. His Irish grandfather ran a grocery store and shoe shop as his father did before him.
